farley jackmaster funk remixed.

how do you make the self-proclaimed 'king of house music' relevant to all the blog masses? pull the old 'pr' media formula of getting some buzz-worthy remixers. farley jackmaster funk has some people working for him that know what they are doing... they got boys noize (one of the kings of the blog-o-sphere), production duo dolby anol (covering the UK indie rock crowd) and lifelike (purveyor of cosmic disco perhaps second only to fred falke at the moment) to each throw their signature sounds on this new track. darryl pandy's vocals are probably the only common thread on all three remixes and remind me of a soloist on gospel sundays.

this first remix by boys noize (and maybe my favorite of the bunch) sounds a bit like something out of the dfa camp with filtering buildups and crisp cymbols. its titled the 'boys noize started like this mix' which makes me wonder if this is how he sounded way back when...

farley jackmaster funk - love cant turn around (boys noize mix)

the second mix was touched by the king midas of cosmic neu-disco (um sorry, i just made that genre up). he covers the track with 80's throwback synths and house vocals. it may have been more aptly named 'lifelike 1992 mix', haha.

farley jackmaster funk - love cant turn around (lifelike 2008 mix)

the last one of the bunch was reworked by dolby anol. they take the song for a bit harder spin than the others, perhaps a style i would have expected from boys noize, but they make it work to round out the group.

it seems like the last few lifelike remixes he's thrown them into his "lifelike remix machine" and it spit out mediocre tracks. i think he should slow down it down a bit... the quality is lacking.

The Boys Noize mix is more like a mashup. He put the accapella over DJ Sneaks "You Can't Hide from Your Bud". Its weird... it doesn't even seem like he might have used the same sample, its like the loop, cut and filtered the same way. Anyway, you be the judge, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=50x9oXg-AMM.

Dig the Lifelike one though, thanks!

sean: good call - i heard the boys noize one will just be out on a white label. so this might be why.

Lifelike is brilliant. Everything he touches is golden.

I've been pretty not into the last batch of Lifelike tracks but this one definitely stands out. Really good.

The Boys Noize mix is a it lame - simply a mashup of DJ Sneak's 'You Can't Hide From Your Bud' and the acapella of the original track! A bit lazy :-(

The vocal isn't actually Farley J. Funk, but Darryl Pandy.

agree with brian on lifelike, really really not cosmic.

would have fitted well into an old lrd/thin white duke thing - it's electroclash init?

personally would have picked rub n tug, alden tyrell and boards of canada :)

just hope they keep the old video

20jfg: i think we'll need to go for some drinks soon and school each other about cosmic and electroclash :).

alden tyrell would have been a great pick for sure. need to try and get in touch with him again. he is missing on here!

love what you do.

Farley Jackmaster Funk is the best DJ I've ever seen! He play'd in my home town a few years ago, in a very small bar and there was hardly any one in there, it felt like me and my mates had hired Farley for our own private party! Inspired me to become a better and better dj. But yeah the boys noise mix is lame... I think the dolby anol mix is the better of the three...

Boys Noize is the banger to run to!

Great job!

none of the mixes utilized the best part of the song, near the end when he shouts 'work, work your body...' and theres a nice accompanying synth line.

The sample is actually from Teddy Pendergrass' "You can't hide from yourself" which is why Sneak named the track that in the first place...
