heartbreak.

when i first heard "we're back" by heartbreak either on cbs or on some good mix a while ago, i did not even consider it blog material because i was pretty much sure that it must be an ancient italo classic. i didn't know it was an all new track by heartbreak, the duo consisting of ali renault on the keyboards and sebastian muravchix on the microphone who both already have quite a few solo releases out on uk underground strictly single-sided vinyl label dissident. so it was a pleasant surprise to hear it again over at the always great get weird turn pro.

heartbreak deliver italo disco at it's best and they even tricked me into thinking this is actually old. i was most likely drunk back then though but obviously they really succeeded at recreating the original italo vibe, vintage synths and drum machines as well as the trademark singing being somewhere on the edge between marvellous and ridiculous. "we're back" and more from heartbreak is about to drop on lex records in the near future. have a good time:

heartbreak - we're back

show heartbreak some myspace love as you want them to come back many more times, no?

UPDATE (aug 19th): "we're back" is now available legally digitally as their first single - signed to lex records worldwide. debut album coming out in september!

They tricked you into believing Heartbreak was old? No offense, but that track is so obviously current that it is silly. It might not have balls-to-the-wall mastering compression, but the modern mix/master style is all in place: The midrange is all mush (due to the seemingly-lost art of EQing each component track into its own little reserved part of the frequency spectrum during mixing) and the drums have no presence (due largely in part to destroying all of their fast transients during mastering.)

anonymous: so you are saying every track back then in the italo disco phase was perfectly mixed and mastered?

and you sound like you know your shit, can you teach me a thing or two about mixing/mastering? currently getting back into production, actually having mad issues with getting the mix right.

and like i said i heard it on a web radio station or on a mix, so that was low-q and sounded different.

ooh, you're so smart. you know about EQ. not all music types are recorded and mixed the same

I dont mind this, reminds me of Sparks..This can also be fun live and I would watch out for them. But as far as this song goes its not killer. But not too far away.

Thanks for Heartbreak! But it's not new but an old one track, it was released on Lycra records, as a split with two tracks of The Revolving Eyes in october-07. I have it on vinyl.

halo-24: uh oh. i guess there's some better research needed next time then.

anyway, i love the revolving eyes too. amazing dj sets as well.

To the guy shitting on about EQ-ing each component track into its own spectrum during mixing:

when will sound engineers get their abnormally large heads out of asses?

I saw these guys live in Vancouver in October '08 opening for Cut Copy/The Presets....they ROCKED! They were almost my favorite out of the three, but it was a purely magical night, period. :)

I will definitely purchase their disc on iTunes instead of ripping it off...I want to show them my love. They seemed so genuine about their love of the music when they played. No fronting. It was awesome! I echo Joel Muggelton's comment....me and my friend had ear-to-ear grins on our faces the whole friggin time they played.

:)
