redial.

redial is an upcoming producer from sydney. so some of you might think 'oh man, another newcomer from australia? this is getting boring!'. well, for those of you: it sure isn't, at least not this time, as redial brings us the heat with some real hot tracks! and if this hasn't sounded corny enough yet, how about i tell you he has already released his first ep 'ghost' on ajax' label sweat it out!? hot tracks, sweat it out, you know? err, well.

seriously now, we have got a few songs for you to check out before you head right over to beatport and pick them up to give redial some support. styles are varying between gloomy synths reminding of kavinsky and tracks that will simply blow you away when played out loud! just listen for yourself:

redial - 1985
redial - 45 overdrive
redial - starscream

for some more, you should head over to our friends at electrorash to check out the redial remix for eclier. and of course, show redial some myspace love!

im sure people are going to hate on me. but what is with the lack of originality? first a shook track called 1986 with the same font as kavinsky. now this called 1985 with the same sound as kavinsky. obv solid production but yea...

it simply ROCKS!

fantastic! I love it! great job again discodust ;p

Tight production but there is nothing behind it. The tracks lack real energy and are fairly unoriginal. The best way to get ahead is either to be the best at what you do or the only one who does it, and this guy is neither. Knows his way around a compressor and a VST though.

yeah 1985 sounds like kavinsky
not enough substance to keep me interested. not that I would say yawn or I hate it - but it's a competitive music world, a lot of tunes vying for everyone's ears.

ok, so like kavinsky, that's the shit because he takes (or OIZO actually, im sure really had to do a lot w/ making his sound complete) the production to this sweet cotton candy level you just want to eat it. and it's more stylistic synth riffs. and it was like 3 years ago I think he started with thos tracks

so when you're out in the clubs on the dancefloor, are you guys really thinking things like 'this track is not original enough, i am not gonna dance to this', especially when a track like '45 overdrive' finally kicks off?

doubt it.

my point is: not everything needs to be super original all new mega innovative. of course all new sounds are exciting but most of the time when i am looking out for tracks to feature on discodust i am just wondering if it will make people dance and keep them on the floor.

and redial definitely succeeds there.

Anonymous said...

haha that was classic, when you're on theh dancefloor are you thinking its not original enough and you wont dance.

It may not be completely original, but I still think it's a breath of fresh air, good sounding tracks, especially 45 overdrive once it gets going, love it.

45 Overdrive sounds like it's sampling SebastiAn's Greel.
Anyway, great track!

Anonymous said...

i don't think it matters if you think if its orig. or not, when everyone starts doing the same thing, the sound gets tired. This is way to close to what Kavinsky did. As said earlier, the production and mix is solid, but really??

Anonymous said...

i think its not possible anymore to kick a track with that much originality when you look at all these new musicians that appear everyday! everyone can produce tracks on his own fucking personal computer and its getting very hard to create a new style of music!
we're not living in 85 anymore!

I LOVE THE REDIAL TRACKS

This is absolute garbage... I can't wait till people get bored of this style. Big thumbs down to Disco Dust for posting this crap.

Very one dimensional in my view, could definitely do with some more originality. Fair enough you'd probably still rave out to it, but the spark of originality and a "new sound" is always what gets the crowd really hyped.

To me, sounded a little After Burner sound track ...

Not necessarily a bad thing though.

Redial should be huge, just because he isn't from France people shouldn't hate on him.

Check out a hot new mix by Tranter from Gameboy/Gamegirl & exclusive mixes from Crookers, Ajax. K.I.M. from The Presets, Cajuan, Nic Fanciulli and Aston Shuffle on MIXD UPT.

'Big thumbs down to Disco Dust for posting this crap.'

big 'fuck you' to you and the others who don't appreciate a banging track like '45 overdrive'. if you don't dig it, just move along and shut up.

i am not getting it. why waste time and share your negative views with the whole world?

if i'd comment on every track i am not digging on other blogs, i wouldn't have time to write my own blog any more. jeez.

and besides that: just cause i am not digging it it doesn't mean it's bad at all. but you seem to think your opinion actually matters.

now let me recover from my hangover.

Anonymous said...

yeah our opinions matters
what's wrong with some F@CKING critical thinking
jesus then F@cuk this world

Anonymous said...

Aleks, by the same token I could ask why waste your time and share your positive views with the world...

You seem to think your opinion actually matters, which is lovely for you, but you could at least afford others the same courtesy when it comes to their views.

BTW. The tracks are shit... They sound like R2D2 is being attacked with a chainsaw. Kavinsky and Mstrkrft did all this much better a long time ago. Something new please :-)

aleks said...

anonymous: although i don't really like to brag - it is quite obvious that my opinion and taste matters, otherwise you wouldn't be here. and yeah, after getting hundreds of emails from both unsigned and signed/industry people asking me about my opinion on tracks, i slowly started to think that my opinion matters. blame them.

and sure, everyone may have their opinion, i just don't get why you feel like the world (or in this case: philip, me and redial) has to know about you not liking something. i doubt this blog would be where it is today if i only ever posted music that i hate.

and the 'something new' bit is really funny. so wouldn't you also agree that as 'your love' by frankie knuckles is the best house track ever anyway, everyone else should just stop making dance music now?

yeah. right.

and even more fun we are discussing kavinsky here regarding that what he has done is far from being 'original' but heavily based on early disco and video game music, jeez, he even sampled kano, do you guys even notice that you are not making any sense? so if the next guy puts out one single track that is in the same vibe (no doubt), it is 'old', all of a sudden?

as a dj you need innovative tracks just as much as pure dj tools and tracks that are not as original and innovative. and i think we are quite good at keeping the balance and provide a bit of everything on here, so don't try to reduce this blog to a single post and give me the 'something new' shit.

(and as you can see, a lot of the other readers seem to love his tunes. so it can't be all wrong.)

Anonymous said...

nice ego DD. sorry but you are a tool. they ask your opinions? more like, what do you think of this track? (ie can you post it). enjoy the real estate while it lasts..

also, it's one thing to take influence from something 10-15-20-30 years ago and add your own spin. it's quite another to copy someone's tracks from 3 years ago. it's music darwinism though... similar to competition/competitive advatange companies face.. there are a ton of artists that will NEVER make it LT... no compelling reason for them to do so, too competitive and too many artists vying for the spotlight. this is def. a big cycle for electronic music, tons more people making it , and it has all evolved becuase production values are better than ever!! but, that doesn't mean even HALFFFFFF of this blog house is unique or will make it LT.
srry

aleks said...

anonymous: it goes far beyond the 'please post' a lot of the times but that's none of your business anyway. just believe me when i say a lot of people ask me for my opinion on their work in progress.

music is one of the things i spent the most time on in my life and i am aware of the fact that i know a thing or two about it, so if you want to call that 'ego', all right.

and this will last as long as i am willing to do it.

and who cares where those artists are tomorrow? it's about what's happening right now.

it's up to them if they can/want to keep up. there will be others.

anyway, this is actually a waste of time for me as you did not even respond to most of my points and come up with random bullshit like "it's cool to be inspired by 10 year old music but uncool to be inspired by 1 year old music".

so if redial came out with his tracks first, you'd say that kavinsky sucks? or if he kept them in the closet for another 20 years and released them in 2028, they would be cool? so the release date of a track matters that much to you and makes it better or worse? that's absurd.

sure you might have heard enough of this sound and are just not up for it any more. but that's not my problem. that's yours.

and just for the record: we played out '45 overdrive' just a few weeks ago and the kids were freaking out to it.

and i don't get why you have to talk shit about a track that works well.

now go annoy someone else and try to find another blog that you actually like and give them some praise. good luck finding one.

Actually, 1986 from Kavinsky or 1985 from Redial...both of them give an Orgasm to my ears !!! Simply fuckin' awesome !

here is my opinion. i enjoy much of what is posted on this site, so yes your opinion obviously does matter. But sometimes criticism has its values, and especially in the case of filtering out recycled music. This stuff is just blatantly recycled, and im sure as redial moves forward he will create his own style, because his production is solid.
Also, most recycled dance music (MSTRKRFT etc) will fly on the dancefloor. just go to any dim mak show (not recommended) for proof. so whether it goes over fine is irrelevant as long as the production is tight.
not hating. just giving feedback that i would want if i were him. im sure hell be making some bangers in the future.

aleks said...

most recent anonymous person: yeah, i agree redial could be a bit more original and will do really fine as his production is good already.

put that way, i can definitely agree with your criticism and feedback expressed like that is indeed valuable for any artist.

Anonymous said...

45 overdrive = goodness

Anonymous said...

It's peoples' negative criticism about "originality" that will cause the banger recession and the banger recession is something I and many others do NOT want!

Nowadays, it shouldn't be about originality but for the fact that it's good. Besides, there's no originality anywhere nowadays. This artist sounds like this artist and that person reminds me of that person. Hell, Hollywood's out of ideas. Now they're just taking ideas from other countries.

Originality is plus, not a necessity.

aleks said...

by the way: '45 overdrive' on #21 in the beatport electronica charts.

seems like it's not just me and a few random commenters who dig that track after all.

so much for this being 'crap' and so much for blogging killing sales.

Anonymous said...

guess we don't need to do reviews anymore, we can just look at the billboard charts, and the higher the song is, the better the song is, obviously..dude kavinsky totally sux

aleks said...

yeah just try and get me wrong all the time.

Anonymous said...

I do respect your blog now more, tks for keeping the respones up.

I was a person who never once said I hated the track... it's good. but a conversation about finer details besides "it would work on the dance floor" are kind of needed in the blog world. right now w/ many blogs, it's far too much of a "I scratch your back , you scratch mine" situation.

aleks said...

all PLUR then!

i like redial. and i like '85 more than '86.

art should exist in and of itself. hating gets us nowhere, and is never constructive.

and 1986 and 1985 don't really sound alike at all... '85 is much rougher and has ...vocals in it. (i could go for an instrumental version over this, though..)

but hey, the names sound alike so they must be the same song, right? blogrolled.

Spectrum said...

i love the tunes, keep it up aleks.

Anonymous said...

i agree with the comment above

Anonymous said...

Love it! Thanks a bunch!

Anonymous said...

wow. an unbelievable amount of hate on this one. redial is solid, but not there yet. he's got all the things it takes to make a banging track of this style... the sweeping synths, complex arpeggios (cue datA), production. just needs to have more depth/direction to it. i do agree that trying to emulate sounds of current artists isn't good, only because it's too apparent and only comes off as copying (i think 1985 even uses the same notes as Testarossa Autodrive, check it out @ 1:17). Redial should dig deeper as did Kavinsky (fuck he just straight sampled Kano in Grand Canyon, nothing to it).

as for the haters, go fuck yourselves. every single one of you. discodust single handedly brought these artists to the attention of the blog world, now valerie is adding to it, and now all of you are 'holier than thou' and think you know your shit.

i read one of the truest quotes yesterday from this very blog.

"everyone's a critic these days. well, maybe everyone's just bombarded with so much music via the internet that they think they can be picky fuckers about everything."
