magic wands.

i am not exactly sure how long 'black magic' by boy & girl duo (and lovers!) magic wands, currently residing in los angeles, has been on the blogs and how often it has been posted and released and re-released and remixed and what not, i just know that since like half a year i keep coming across it again and again and whenever that happens, i have it playing on repeat for hours and hours. i read their sound is described as 'cosmic pop' or 'bedroom pop' but to me this track is the fucking essence of rock'n'roll.

'black magic' is fueled by the most addictive overdriven guitar-riff ever and then puts a spell on you with truly captivating lyrics that leave me wondering whether the chorus or the verses are the more catchy element. all this wizardry is accompanied by heavily stumbling drums, stuffed with shouts and layered with tons of reverb and distant conjuring chants that will literally want to make you go 'hell yeah'.

this is what i was always hoping for when i've encountered people raving about yeah yeah yeahs, the white stripes or the kills but it was magic wands who finally delivered.

magic wands - black magic

as i have mentioned remixes before, here is one that i've got in the mail today but for me it does not even come close to the original.

magic wands - black magic (l'amour la morgue edition)

get yourself the 'magic, love & dreams' ep from bright antenna or young and lost club.

goddamit aleks you always fucking make every track sound like its going to be mindblowing.

Not every song you post has to be the best ever. And this one is only ok. It well produced and written I guess, but if it was as good as you say, it wouldn't be doing the rounds on the blogs.

Love discodust and not tryin' to hate. Just saying.

Oh! I remember I had a demo version of this song for a long time! Had forgotten about it and now I can't seem to find it. Hasnt changed much from what I recall, but it's nice to hear it finished.

The remix is nowhere as good as the original but I like this change of pace on discodust. Please keep posting some more of this goodies every now and then ;)

They are absolutely awesome. It sounds to me kinda The Kills with some electronic touch. Great discovery!

Do you know where can I purchase their ep? Cos no beatport... just amazon music but only works within the US. Crappy damn...

You make it sound as if blog songs are the leftovers whose only value is to give away for free. On the contrary—all the most popular artists on blogs have achieved this by giving away some of their TOP songs for free.

As for Magic Wands, this is the first I've heard of them and I love it!

I had the chance to see the Magic Wands open for the Kills a couple months back. I hadn't yet heard of them at the time, but thought they were great live.

The girl is a dead ringer for a young Kirsten Dunst, circa Virgin Suicides era.
