crystal castles + white lies.

this new remix for white lies by ethan kath of crystal castles (pictured above) just showed up on my radar (well, google reader). and i am quite irritated because it sounds almost nothing like their previous material but as it is up on their remix myspace it has to be official.

and when i say "it sounds nothing like their previous material" that means it is really hard hitting, properly mixed and does not have a single chiptune-sound but a pretty heavy distorted bassline and even (gasp) actual chords! but listen for yourself, i am a fan anyway and will always remember the crystal castles show in frankfurt will as something very special.

white lies - death (crystal castles remix)

listen to the original material by white lies too, as they are easily one of the best upcoming indie bands in ages and remind me a lot of interpol - my favorite band ever. i don't have a high-quality mp3 around, so just head over to their myspace. and i'll keep watching out for new productions from crystal castles as well.

thanks to cannibal cheerleader for putting this up first!

Actually, discodust...

That drum "chick chicka chicka chicka chick" is an 8 bit sample.

So they still have some 8 bit floating around there.

actually, anonymous...

i assume when you say 'that drum "chick chicka chicka chicka chick"' you mean the hi-hats and they could be from any drum source in the world and they don't bring any serious chiptune-vibe to the track.

and that's coming from someone who has been composing and listening to c-64 sid- and amiga chiptunes for years.

It doesn't matter even if you have a masters degree in chiptune synthesis, One CAN argue that it brings a very serious chiptune vibe to the track. Just the same as one can argue against it.

It may just be a 2 high hat samples filtered and shortened but personally I wouldn't put it past Ethan to just rip the sample from 8bitcollective.com and be done with it.

anonymous: if you're in the mood for it and don't have shit to do, you can argue about pretty much everything.

you know what i meant - there are no more arpeggios and bleeps. if you think some random hi-hats make a tune sound like it was done on a c-64, hey.

WHO CARES
CRYSTAL CASTLES STOLE THEIR SAMPLES
AND WERE CAUGHT

THEY WERE NEVER 8BIT

AND NEVER WILL BE

BYE BYE FAKERS

The only people who agrue about Crystal Castles on the internet are kids making obscure 8-bit songs, still living with their parents, jealous that Crystal Castles became massive.

The Verve became famous with an uncleared Rolling Stones sample in "Bitter Sweet Symphony", no one cared.

The most obscure and earliest tracks by Crystal Castles use samples, who cares, it had nothing to do with their huge success FOUR YEARS LATER.

^ well put.

well put indeed. no need for me to deal with this nonsense any more. yay!

Well put what?

Their huge success four years later thanks to ripping off Trevor Brown.

FAKERS!

thnx for this one.

Crystal Castles has already squeezed the hell out of their gimmick with their past blog releases and self titles album.

If they think they can generate more buzz with material as lackluster as this than their sorely mistaken.

the track is solid and definitely shows some progress. and alice on stage is fucking insane. not getting all the negative opinions really.

and so where are all those oh so great 8-bit guys then? why did they never make it to the blogs or to the clubs?

lol, yeah ok, cc is successful b/c of one madonna print.

aleks said...

as if that madonna artwork has anything to do with people enjoying crystal castles. or with alice' killing performances on stage.

you guys need to get over it, it's time to appreciate the greatness.

haha such a stupid argument. i had no idea about the whole faking ordeal until right now and i have loved the crystal castles ever since i heard airware at a mates house not knowing who it was.

like it or hate it but why make a stupid internet argument about it.

it's funny people get so annoyed when they discover their favorite band are actually a pair of pricks

This track is SICK! Its very MSTRKRFT vibe for sure. White Lies is wicked too, I checked out more songs on their player, and love it! http://getmusic.ca/mediaplayers/whitelies/canada/

this is such an amazingly bad track

and I blame that stupid bass synth that sounds so horribly out of place.

consonant chords w/ dissonant bass noise that sounds so out of key, are you kidding me?
